Coach Ben Strandberg is in his fourth year as Head Coach at Earlham. Prior to joining Earlham, he led the wrestling programs at West Central Valley for three years, Sibley-Ocheyedan for eight years, and Storm Lake High School for one year. Additionally, he gained valuable experience as a student assistant coach at Buena Vista University. Over his 15-year career as a head coach, Strandberg has guided 48 state qualifiers and 18 state medalists, achieving an impressive 172 dual wins. His teams have earned significant accolades, including State Dual trophies for 3rd place in 2016 and 5th place in 2017. Furthermore, the Generals secured 3rd place in the Traditional State Championship in 2017, with five state place winners.
As a wrestler, Strandberg competed for the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Buena Vista University. At UNO, he qualified twice for the NCAA II National Tournament and contributed to two national championship teams. At Buena Vista, he was a two-time NCAA III National qualifier and earned All-American honors in 2007, finishing second at the national championships.
In high school, Strandberg was a two-time state qualifier. His most notable achievement came in 2002 when he placed second at the state meet, helping Emmetsburg win its third consecutive team championship.
Strandberg earned his B.A. in History/Education from Buena Vista University in 2008. He and his wife, Staci, have three children: Lilli, Charlie, and Cooper.
